Food and Wine Pairing: Roast Chicken and Red Wine

September 6th, 2013

Following up on our coverage of Food & Wine’s Chicken Week, here’s the best roast chicken in the country. [level-members]

The chicken is house specialty at Zuni Cafe in San Francisco and was voted the best roast chicken recipe in the country by F&W readers.

As for what to pair with it, here are a few suggestions:

The F&W folks recommend a “ripe, rich Sonoma Chardonnay.” That’s a fine choice. But what about those of us who prefer red wine?

A pinot would work well, too, particularly a more fruit-forward bottling if you’re also whipping up the accompanying bread salad recipe. A Côtes du Rhône would be another excellent choice.

Enjoy!
