Wine Industry News – October 31, 2016

October 31st, 2016

Wine industry news, Halloween edition.

Not a lot of pumpkin-related news, nor ghouls and goblins, but there’s plenty going on in the world of wine here in the US and abroad. [level-members]

Much of that news is climate related. First, our neighbors up north are wondering whether it’s time to buy more Canadian wine as climate changes forces higher prices elsewhere.

Bloomberg also reports that wine output is nearly as low as it’s been in the past 20 years thanks to extreme weather events like heavy rain and unexpected frosts.

California bucks that trend to some extent, with a harvest that is “a mostly normal yield … throughout the state.” Even better news is that the fruit is “of exceptional quality.”

The news out west isn’t all rosy, though, with looming labor shortages scaring some wine producers.
