The recovery in California continues, the Dutch and Belgians combine on an appellation, and Amazon’s departure from the wine business leaves a void. [level-members]

First, the new appellation: all the Dutch I know seem to prefer beer, but that probably says more about my choices in friends than anything about the Dutch … regardless, the Dutch and Belgians will share a wine appellation across their joint border.

Despite a history that suggests they’ll be back, Amazon’s departure from the wine biz has other companies plotting ways to fill the void. Will any succeed? And will they survive if the giant returns?
