Food & Wine Pairing: Overnight Guests and Brunch

December 9th, 2016

No, we aren’t recommending that you serve your overnight guests with fava beans and a nice chianti a la Hannibal Lector. We are suggesting that brunch is better than breakfast when you have a house full of overnight guests because

  1. Not everybody gets up at the crack of dawn
  2. Wine

You can’t serve wine for breakfast without at least dinging the veneer of respectability I’m sure you’ve cultivated over the years. But you can drink at brunch. And though a bloody mary or mimosa is the typical choice, there’s no reason not to pour a proper wine.

Particularly if you’re serving something as toothsome and delicious as this egg scramble from Food & Style.

Viviane’s recommendation of a pinot works. Really, any lighter red, lightly chilled, would be a great accompaniment. For those who feel that a white is better midday, I would recommend something with a bit more body, perhaps a Chardonnay. Even better, ditch the OJ and keep the bubbles: sparkling wine should pair beautifully, as well.

Enjoy those overnight guests!
