In direct contrast to our report last week, not all corners of the whiskey world are tearing it up. [level-members]
Bonhams, New York has suspended its whiskey auction business indefinitely, according to a report from Shanken News Daily. As hot as the market sector is, it seems there’s not enough demand for the auction house’s division to be profitable.
This might point to there being a younger skew to the current whiskey audience, an audience that is not interested in (or perhaps, well-heeled enough to) being collectors of rare and vintage whiskey.
Bonhams will continue whiskey auctions at other locations in Scotland and Hong Kong.
