Except for those wine shops seeking a customer base spread across a wide geographic range, general SEO is not nearly as important as local search. Here’s a nice summary of what’s important. [level-members]
First, it’s important to understand that local search is more important than broader SEO for most wine shops because most wine shops are targetting their local markets. You want to be a big fish in a small pond. Unless you’re a highly specialized shop – dealing primarily in Bordeaux futures or South African wines, for example – resources devoted to broad SEO performance are a waste of time.
The folks at MarketingProfs have put together a nice infographic showing all of the moving pieces in local search. (You may need to click through to the full-size version to drill down to the details.)
Note that much of what’s discussed is Google-specific and there are usually similar steps to be taken to rank well for Bing and other search engines.
And of course, if you are looking for help, give us a shout. Local search is not an automatic part of the Grapeseed Marketing platform, but can easily and cost-effectively be added if you don’t want to do it on your own.
