What Your Wine Shop Customers Are Reading: Bon Appetit November 2014

Bon Appetit’s November issue is, of course, the Thanksgiving issue, complete with 197 recipes, rules and tips for “the best meal of the year.” Craving silky gravy, perfect potatoes, or the only pie you’ll ever need? How about “the turkey that will change your life.” Hmm … [level-members]

A cranberry feature includes a Cranberry Rum Punch, so folks may be on the lookout for white rum.

The Wine Insider column is all about hosting the big event. You’re hosting, you’re cooking, make the guests bring the wine. They recommend a prosecco or similar sparkler for pre-meal snacking, a Barbaresco as a red for the meal, Grüner Veltliner as a white dinner option, and a sherry for dessert.

On the other hand, you might consider keeping it all-American on this most American of holidays, with California sparklers, riesling from New York’s Finger Lakes, and Oregon Pinots.

Another smart idea: keep the alcohol content in mind. It’s a long day. High-alcohol wines aren’t always the devil’s brew they’re made out to be, but they’re not meant for a marathon like Thanksgiving.
