Food & Wine Pairings: Time for Something Light

November 21st, 2014

Yes, winter’s bite is just beginning to be felt in many parts of the country, but we’re also staring down the barrel of the year’s biggest week of overeating. (For most of us …) Here are a few options for eating a bit lighter this weekend in advance of caloric onslaught. [level-members]

How about a lighter red to go along with dark, leafy greens? A spinach salad paired with a gamay can be a great lunch or light dinner. A kale salad is a good choice, too, if you’re aren’t experiencing kale fatigue. It’s quite the “it” veggie at the moment.

A quick homemade pizza can be a nice light meal if you go easy on the sauce and cheese – or mix it up with some greens or other fresh veggies. Lots of lighter Italian wines make a natural pairing but for the more adventurous, you might try a rosé.

And here’s a salmon recipe with a hazelnut relish that calls out for a rich buttery chardonnay.

Enjoy the busy weekend!
