The Grapevine

Wine Shop Customer Reading List – Bon Appetit – June 2015

June 11th, 2015

This month in Bon Appetit, we have the Burger Issue. Time to hit the grill. [level-members]

First, though, The Wine Insider column is devoted to “thinking outside the bottle.” Wine is now available in cans and Tetra Paks as well as the old standby boxes. (Which are actually bags in a box. Tetra Paks are foil lined cartons.)

We love the idea for beach picnics, camping and other casual gatherings – pretty much anywhere it feels right to tweak the snobbishness that can be wine culture.

There’s pie baking instructions and recommendations to always have a glass of rosé at hand when grilling, so perhaps stocking up on the pink stuff would be a good idea.

There’s also an article on ice cream floats with optional recommended spikes. Peach and Fizzy Grapefruit sounds good, particularly if spiked with Campari. Vanilla with Bitters and Cherry sounds even better, though I’m not a huge fan of Kirsch or cherry brandy. Green tea ice cream with ginger beer, some mint and a spike of Irish whiskey is the real winner …
