Wine Economists and Wine Snobs

Leave it to economists to take (some of) the fun out of wine. [level-members]

This Alternet article tells the story of a professor’s modest idea to create a small, specialized academic journal for a few dozen colleagues and how it has become the popular and respected Journal of Wine Economics.

Along the way we learn about their research into wine pricing, consumer preference, and why New York restaurants and consumers should be buying New Jersey wines.

I’m not sure I’m willing to follow them that far, but there are a lot of interesting factoids in the article about why wine buyers behave the way they do.
