Why Wine Shop Owners Who Drink Beer Do Better

November 28th, 2017

The title is a little tongue-in-cheek, but we’re actually quite serious about why you shouldn’t hide your beer-drinking habit from your wine shop customers. [level-members]

Here’s why:

You own a wine shop. Naturally, your wine shop customers expect that you’re going to be knowledgeable about wine. They might also be a bit intimidated by your knowledge. Experts can often be intimidating, but that’s especially true in areas like wine where there’s a mystique or knowledge is considered to be esoteric.

Being a beer drinker can eliminate that to some extent since it paints a more casual picture, and lets folks know that their impulse to have a beer can be the better choice, depending on what you’re eating.

Being exclusively a beer drinker probably isn’t going to help your credibility any more than swearing off all wine but red Bordeaux, but letting your customers know that wine isn’t an all-or-nothing proposition will make you and your shop more approachable. [/level-members]
