Food and Wine Pairing: Wine and Beans

February 7th, 2014

Wine and beans may not be as popular a pairing as peanut butter and jelly, but perhaps it should be! [level-members]

Gregory Dal Piaz has a really great post recently on hearty bean dishes and some great wine accompaniments.

Among his recommendations are Sausage with White Beans and Tomato Sauce, which he recommends pairing with either the Fattoria Dei Barbi Rosso di Montalcino for $23 or the San Felice Campogiovanni Rosso di Montalcino at $18.

On the lighter side, we have Rigatoni with Beans and Mushrooms that pairs nicely with whites like the Girlan Pinot Bianco Plattenriegl for $22 or the Alois Lageder Pinot Bianco at $14.

My favorite, though is the White Bean and Sausage Ragout with Tomatoes, Kale, and Zucchini that pairs with a house favorite, Zweigelt. Snooth recommends Zantho Zweigelt ($15) and Weingut Berger Zweigelt ($15/Ltr)

Enjoy!
