There’s a difference between the wines we drink at home (and buy at retail) and those we drink when we’re out for dinner. Can you guess why? [level-members]
I’m sure you guessed right away that the issue is price. The beloved $15 bottle you might drink at home on an off Friday night is probably $30-$40 – at least! – on a local restaurant’s wine list. That’s a pretty big disincentive.
And while we don’t fault restaurants from making their margins where they can – we’ve all got to pay the rent – it would be nice if wine was viewed as more an integral part of the dining experience rather than as a luxury for only the most well-heeled patrons.
