What Your Wine Shop Customers are Reading – 8/13/15

August 13th, 2015

Wine Spectator for 9/30/15 is ll about fish and wine, with reports on 2012 white Burgundy and 2013 California Pinot. [level-members]

The coffee column consists this issue of cool coffee drinks. So you may have more than the usual requests for Kahlua, Drambuie, and Grand Marnier.

The Savvy Shopper includes Astrolabe Sauvignon Blanc Marlborough Province 2014 as a Smart Buy at $23 and the Bodegas Burgo Viejo Rioja Crianza 2012 as a Best Value at $13. The wines rate 92 and 90, respectively.

Matt Kramer’s column is well summed up in the pull quote: “The greatest wines should transport us to a realm of emotion.”

The fish and food article includes lots of whites – some bubbly, some “usual suspects” and some nice surprises.

For the 2013 California Pinots, WS’ vintage chart points us to Santia Lucia Highlands and Sonoma. Santa Barbera, Carneros, and Anderson Valley do not score nearly as well.

Burgundy isn’t expensive enough for you? A vintage with low yields should help that. An impressive list of 95+ point wines, with prices about where you’d expect them. [/level-members]
