Food & Wine Pairing: Salad

December 23rd, 2016

Not the most seasonal of meals, salad, but that’s precisely the point. Sometimes, after a season’s worth of overindulgence, a light, bright salad is exactly the perfect meal. [level-members]

Of course, it’s what you put in the salad that determines what wine to put in your glass. A simple Caesar Salad cries out for an unoaked Chardonnay. Add grilled chicken and you might consider a richer version.

Going more of the Greek Salad route? Assyrtiko, of course, or something like a Sauvignon Blanc.

Spinach and bacon? A lighter bodied red will work well. If you load on the blue cheese dressing – and who doesn’t – perhaps the slight sweetness of a Kabinett Riesling.

Salad Nicoise is getter further away from our clean and refreshing idea, but if you pair it with a French rosé, you’ll still be mighty happy.
