This week, your wine shop customers are likely to be reading a pair of articles in The New York Times. One we’ll get to tomorrow, but the first is about the wines of Ribeira Sacra. [level-members]
This region of northwestern Spain is mountainous and has been planted with wine grapes for thousands of years. The wines we see today, though, are largely a product of a rebirth of the region about a decade or so ago. As the article says, the reds are “lively, graceful wines with the same sort of aromatic loveliness … that draws people to Burgundy and Barolo.”
Nice values are available, but this is not a region with too many bargain-bin candidates. The wines simply aren’t imported widely enough for that.
