Retail Wine News – Trouble in Burgundy, PA May Approve DTC

July 29th, 2013

As if Burgundies aren’t expensive enough, recent hailstorm-damage seems to have hit the wine crop hard. And Pennsylvania appears ready to approve direct shipping of wine in the legislature. [level-members]

In Burgundy, a series of hailstorms devastated the wine crop in a number of well-known areas within the region, including Côte de Beaune and Volnay. Depending on the level of damage sustained, pricing may be unaffected as the region’s weather has cut production for the last 4 or 5 years so supply may not be out of line with recent vintages.

In Pennsylvania, the state House of Representatives has passed a bill that now goes to the Senate. If approved there, wineries will be permitted to ship to all of-age residents of Pennsylvania. Is Massachussets, another state that does not currently permit  direct shipping, next?
